  • ***SPORTS DAY POSTPONED***

Due to the Yellow Warning of thunderstorms we have taken the difficult decision to cancel Sports Day on Wednesday and reschedule for Friday 21st June 2019, weather permitting.
  • School Closed - Friday 2nd March 2018

    Thu 01 Mar 2018

    SCHOOL CLOSED - Friday 2nd March 2018

    Dear Parents / Carers,

We have made the difficult decision to remain closed tomorrow (Friday 2nd March). Mr Bird has worked tirelessly to clear pathways in and around the site throughout the day. However there is significant ice underfoot, snow drifting and as such our site is unsafe.

We would prefer to wait until the morning but we understand that this can also cause problems for families trying to organise childcare.

This has been a very difficult decision to make but ultimately we put the safety of all our children, families and staff first.

We will reopen on Monday morning; please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience but we hope that an early notification will allow parents and carers to make alternative child care arrangements where necessary.

    Thank you for your support.

  • In the Event of Snow

    Tue 27 Feb 2018

    In the Event of Snow

In the event of extreme inclement weather, such as when heavy falls of snow develop overnight and continue into the following day or extreme icy conditions occur, parents should take the following advice about the possibility of school closure. Whenever possible, Walesby C of E Primary School will remain open. However, we have to consider the safety of all our children and staff, some of whom travel a great distance into school each day.

Should the need arise, in severe weather a decision will be made by 7.30am if the school is to be closed. A text message alert will be sent informing you of school closure. We will also ring Capital FM and Radio Nottingham (local radio) weather line, in order for them to announce the school closure, at the earliest possible opportunity. We will then report the closure on www.ngalerts.co.uk and inform the LA of the school closure. The closure will also be announced on the school website at www.walesbyschool.org.uk. I would ask all parents to check for a text message or listen to one of these stations if heavy snow is falling or has fallen overnight or if there is other extreme weather and there have been school closures announced. Please do not telephone the school before 8:30am. If you do arrive at school, please do not leave your children without confirming that the school is to remain open.

Once the school is open for the day we will remain open until the end of the normal school day at 3:30pm. If heavy snow falls during the day and you are concerned about getting your child home, you are welcome to collect your child earlier. Please do not telephone in these circumstances, just call into school to collect the children. Phone lines do become extremely blocked as you can imagine.

Our aim is to open every day but hopefully, this information will give some clarity.

  • Rocket Seeds Experiment (Day 10)

    Mon 02 May 2016

    Rocket Seeds Experiment (Day 10)

The rocket seeds are growing well. It is day 10 and so far 56 of the red seeds have germinated, but amazingly 88 of the blue seeds have started to grow!

The tallest rocket plant is B45 at 6.3cm in height.

We are now waiting to see when they begin to grow two true leaves.

  • Rocket Science Experiment (Day 1)

    Mon 02 May 2016

    Rocket Science Experiment (Day 1)

In December, Astronaut Tim Peake took some rocket seeds (of the salad variety) up to the International Space Station. The seeds were recently brought back to Earth and Walesby School were lucky enough to be chosen to take part in the nationwide Rocket Science Experiment.

On Tuesday we received 200 seeds; 100 seeds in a red packet and 100 seeds in a blue packet. One of the packets contained the seeds that had travelled 248 miles into space to the ISS. The other packet had ordinary rocket seeds but we don’t know which packet contained the ‘space’ seeds!

On Wednesday 20th April (day 1) the children in Year 3 and Year 4 planted the 200 rocket seeds in individual plant pots. Our task now is to observe the seeds/seedlings/plants regularly and send our growth data to the National Experiment database.

We made predictions about how we thought the seeds would grow.

Bradley B. said, “I think the space seeds will grow better because they have been up to the ISS where there isn’t any gravity.”

26 children agreed with Bradley and thought the space seeds would grow the best.

Hannah said, “I think the seeds that have been to space will not grow as well as the ones that have stayed on Earth.”

6 children agreed with Hannah and thought the space seeds would not grow as well.

Adam W. said, “I don’t think going to space will make any difference. They will all grow the same amount.”

18 children agreed with Adam and thought going into space would not make any difference.

  • Courageous Performance

    Sun 11 Oct 2015
Walesby football team tried very hard to retain the George Abbott Shield on Friday with an exciting cup match against Annesley Primary School. Unfortunately we narrowly lost by 3 goals to 2. It was 2-2 with just minutes to go but Annesley managed to get the winning goal leaving us with little time to respond. The boys worked very hard with great goals from Warren and Connor. 'Man of the Match' this week goes to Harry L. for his strong leadership in defence.
