Rocket Seeds Experiment (Day 10)
The rocket seeds are growing well. It is day 10 and so far 56 of the red seeds have germinated, but amazingly 88 of the blue seeds have started to grow!
The tallest rocket plant is B45 at 6.3cm in height.
We are now waiting to see when they begin to grow two true leaves.
Rocket Science Experiment (Day 1)
In December, Astronaut Tim Peake took some rocket seeds (of the salad variety) up to the International Space Station. The seeds were recently brought back to Earth and Walesby School were lucky enough to be chosen to take part in the nationwide Rocket Science Experiment.
On Tuesday we received 200 seeds; 100 seeds in a red packet and 100 seeds in a blue packet. One of the packets contained the seeds that had travelled 248 miles into space to the ISS. The other packet had ordinary rocket seeds but we don’t know which packet contained the ‘space’ seeds!
On Wednesday 20th April (day 1) the children in Year 3 and Year 4 planted the 200 rocket seeds in individual plant pots. Our task now is to observe the seeds/seedlings/plants regularly and send our growth data to the National Experiment database.
We made predictions about how we thought the seeds would grow.
Bradley B. said, “I think the space seeds will grow better because they have been up to the ISS where there isn’t any gravity.”
26 children agreed with Bradley and thought the space seeds would grow the best.
Hannah said, “I think the seeds that have been to space will not grow as well as the ones that have stayed on Earth.”
6 children agreed with Hannah and thought the space seeds would not grow as well.
Adam W. said, “I don’t think going to space will make any difference. They will all grow the same amount.”
18 children agreed with Adam and thought going into space would not make any difference.
On Monday 22nd February please can Class Oak report to the main office and go through the hall to the music room please (your temporary classroom before we broke up for the half term break).
Class Horse Chestnut, please can you report to the main office and go straight through to the hall. This will be your classroom for the next week at least.
Class Silver Birch, please can you report to FS2 Classroom. Please go past Class Horse Chestnut entrance and enter the FS2 classroom via the canopy please, near to playgroup. Please do not enter via the cloakroom and toilets.
At the end of the day, all the above named classes will be brought out onto the main playground. Class Silver Birch will be on the corner, near the wooden fencing. Class Oak and Class Horse Chestnut will be near the main office. Thank you
