Where in the world could the Snowman visit?

We hope you are ready for another exciting half term.

During this half term we will develop our ability to plan and write stories. We will be using a number of quality children’s books, including ‘The Snowman’ by Raymond Briggs, to inspire us to write our own stories.

As part of our work on ‘The Snowman’ we will ask the question ‘Where in the world could the Snowman visit?’ We will find out about temperatures around the world and look at some of the key human and physical features from around the world.

In art and design we will be creating a stage out of an old shoe box and will be making film sets for each scene of our own snowman adventure. After making the characters out of modelling clay, we will take photographs of their adventures.

Our science topic this half term is ‘Electricity’. We will begin by looking at appliances which use electricity. We will investigate simple circuits and find out about suitable materials to make a switch. Later we will use our knowledge of circuits to develop our own electrical quiz board.

The Year 2s in the class are busy learning their lines and the songs for the Christmas Nativity ‘A Midwife Crisis’. The Year 3s will soon be organising the Christingle service in St. Edmund’s Church.

We will continue to have regular times table challenges. Will you gain a bronze, silver or gold times table award?

PE

Don't forget your PE kit at the start of every week. This half term PE will be on Monday morning and Thursday afternoon where we will be developing our gymnastics skills and hockey skills. Remember your outdoor PE kit needs to include suitable warm clothing and trainers for safety.

Reading

We are all aiming to be reading superheroes this year. We try to read as often as we can so our reading rockets reach for the stars! Can you read 6 times a week to gain a Great Book Guzzler Golden Reading Award?

Homework

We have maths homework each week which helps us to show our parents how we are developing. Don’t forget to use your Mathletics login to have fun doing extra maths activities and games. We also have a reading comprehension activity and weekly spellings where we need to try hard to write the words independently. Homework is collected in every Wednesday so please remember your homework packet.
